Today I’m sharing my recommendation for the FIRST lens you should ever buy as a wedding photographer! There are so many different options out there, and I know it can be so overwhelming. But here is the first lens I bought when I first started, and why I think I made the right choice!
The lens I first bought in my photography career was the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G lens (here’s a link to the Canon equivalent!). I think this lens is great for so many reasons! If you are just starting out and want something versatile, I definitely recommend it for a few reasons:
First, can use it for SO many parts of the day! If I had to, I could use it for the majority of a wedding day. Of course, there are times when you want to get more reach or a wider shot… but for a beginner, this length is a happy medium that will get you through a lot.
Second, it’s cheap! When you’re first starting, you usually don’t have a lot to invest right away… so for a couple hundred dollars, this is a great option! And, it has a pretty low aperture for great bokeh, which is hard to find for that price!
Hope this helps guide you on one of your first business purchases! Obviously, as you grow your business, you will want to expand your equipment so it can help you capture certain aspects in the way you want. But this will give you a good start. :) If you have any other questions about it, let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading!
