The Stephanie Kase Podcast, Ep. 41: Effective strategies to posting consistently on Instagram (it’s not what you think)

March 27, 2023

Welcome back to another episode of The Stephanie Kase Podcast! This week, we’re talking about effective strategies to post consistently on Instagram. We asked you guys, our audience, what your biggest pain point was for Instagram. Over and over again, we heard that posting consistently is the problem. So many of you feel defeated and “behind” on the app. So, I wanted to create an episode that talked about strategies you can actually use to post consistently.

Before we jump in, I wanted to remind you about my FREE live training this week! What to Post on Instagram for the Next 30 Days: How to Post on Instagram Consistently & Gain Highly Engaged Followers will be a live video training with dates in 2023 on March 30, March 31, and April 1 (and no, this is not a joke!) Sign up to join us live here!  Now, onto those strategies!

#1: Release the pressure to post every single day

You can absolutely see consistent growth on Instagram without posting every day. In fact, in the 8 years I’ve been growing my business and Instagram account, I’ve never posted every single day. Almost the whole time, I’ve taken at least Sundays off of social media, but oftentimes, it’s been more than that. When I had a service-based business, I booked half my clients from Instagram and even now, we generate a lot of leads there. All of that without posting every single day. We’ve all been told this idea that we have to post every day but that’s just not the truth. Yes, are you posting a LOT of short form content on the app? Totally. You need to do that to see growth. I’m also not saying you should post once and ghost your audience and expect to see growth. That’s not the reality either.

But, even if you only show up 4-6 days of the week, you’ll be able to see growth if you’re creating the right content and engaging with your audience. So, it’s time to release the pressure that you have to show up every single day.

#2: Create a posting schedule that works for you.

Students often tell me they feel behind on the app comes from feeling like they’re not doing what they’re “supposed” to be on Instagram. Instead, I want you to create a posting schedule that feels realistic for your season of life. What are the goals you have for Instagram and what do you want to aim for? Those are the things that you need to focus on and show up with, as you build your posting schedule. When creating posting schedules, it’s important to understand your specific goals – follower growth? Do you want more engagement? Are you trying to convert to sales? Whatever your focus is will impact the type of content you post (photos, Stories, Reels) and the strategy you use. It’s also important to consider your capacity. Do you have a lot of time to post right now or not? Realistically, how often can you post and be on Instagram without burning yourself out and still creating content you’re proud of?

Right now, I’m in a lower capacity season while still trying to launch my new course soon. I don’t have the ability to post every day on my feed right now, and I’m totally okay with that. I’m not seeing a lot of new follower growth. Instead, I’m nurturing the audience that I have. So, for me, I’m doing a lot of low effort content – especially on Stories. This is how I can show up easily in this season.

My free class this week will talk more about the types of content to use for your posting schedule based on your needs and capacity right now! So remember to  join us live here!

#3: Work ahead

Now, the next thing is how to actually keep up with whatever posting schedule you create. Working ahead is the answer! You’d be surprised to know how many creators, brands, and businesses who post consistently on Instagram aren’t posting on the fly. We’re working ahead. There’s a few reasons that we do this. First, it gives us room and flexibility. If you fall behind and can’t create content for a day or two, you’re not scrambling to publish something and feeling defeated when it’s not beneficial or performing well.  Another reason I love working ahead is because I’m just more creative that way. I don’t feel frantic or flustered. It’s so much easier to be consistent and create quality content when I’m working ahead.

Something that comes up when working ahead is how you create content that’s relevant if you’re working in advance. I do want to say that the trends or relevant content lasts longer on Instagram than it does on Tik Tok. I typically won’t create content more than a month in advance, because I want to stay relevant. But, I can still stay on my schedule and keep posting consistently. Again, working ahead will still give you that flexibility if some new trend comes out – you can jump on it because you have the space to create.

#4: Schedule your feed posts

Another way to post consistently is to plan our your feed posts in advance. I think they can be thought out in advance, and Stories are a little more on the fly. Those are meant to connect with your audience and are often low effort.  Feed posts can feel like a whole other ballgame. There’s more effort involved. We like using PLANN to prepare our posts in advance. Even if you can’t autopost (if you’re on a creator account on Instagram, you won’t be able to – and that’s what we recommend so you have access to trending sounds!), it’s still helpful to plan things out in advance. When it’s time to post, you just hit the button and it copies your caption so you can paste it on Instagram. It’s super easy!

#5: Create low effort content

Something else I think about when showing up consistently is to focus on low effort content. If you’re in a season of life with a lower capacity to show up, then use that low effort content. I feel like there’s a misconception that every post you create has to be super perfect, highly produced, and edited. I don’t think that’s the case in order to show up on Instagram in an effective way. Think about what’s easy and what you can start with right now. Maybe it’s creating a B-Roll Reel, or maybe it’s posting more Stories this week. Or maybe it’s creating more content with your face. Whatever it is, start there. Those small quick wins keep us motivated.

#6: Create content from your routines

This might seem a bit obvious, but one easy way to create new content for Instagram is to document the things you’re doing. This goes back to personal branding. But, Instagram is meant to be social and to be used for connection. So, focusing on personal branding can help you create more content. Begin to incorporate content creation in your normal routine. Film yourself making breakfast or feeding your dog. Whatever it is that makes sense with your brand. Using this type of low effort content will help you show up consistently, which means you’ll be top of mind in your audience’s mind.  It’s helpful, too, when you’re in a rut and don’t know what to post. I remember, I want to connect with my people. What will help that connection?

I hope these strategies will help you post more consistently on Instagram! If you still want more help, don’t forget to sign up for my free class!
