Today, I’m sharing 6 myths you might be believing about Instagram. To see real growth on your Instagram account, you NEED to stop believing these myths. So, let’s debunk these myths so you can see real changes on your Instagram account this year! 

Myth #1: You have to post every single day on Instagram to see growth

The idea that you have to post every single day to see growth is simply not true. There is absolutely nothing that says you have to post every day to see growth. I know that it might be controversial, but in my opinion, putting the pressure on yourself to post every day is really unfair. There’s so many reasons you might not be able to do that. I can tell you as someone who has used Instagram to grow my business for nearly 8 years, I have never posted EVERY day for more than a week at a time. I’ve still seen LOTS of growth on my account. 

Instead, the key here is to post consistently over time with a schedule that works for you and aligns with your goals. It’s not necessary to post every day to grow. It’s not sustainable and frankly just unrealistic. I promise you, you’ll still see growth while having healthy boundaries around Instagram!

Myth #2: Shadowbanning keeps you from growing

Honestly, Instagram has said shadowbanning is simply not a thing and isn’t true on their app. I believe them! This used to be a really big thing that people got upset about. They felt that it was what was holding their accounts back… But, the reality is that shadowbanning isn’t a real thing. So… it’s time to stop blaming Instagram for your content not being seen. It’s not something happen on the app! 

Myth #3: Instagram doesn’t want to push your content in the algorithm

I think a lot of people believe the myth that Instagram doesn’t want to push your content or that the algorithm is holding your content/account back. The truth? Instagram WANTS to serve engaging, quality content to their viewers to keep them on the app longer! So the key here is to make quality, engaging audience for your niche and target audience. If your content isn’t catching and keeping people’s attention then you need to change it up. 

So instead of feeling defeated, think: How can I work with their goal to keep people on the app and also get seen? You want to create quality bingeable content that gets people to stay on the app (and specifically your profile) for longer. 

Myth #4: Video quality matters the most in getting more views

We get SO MANY MESSAGES asking about video quality impacting how many views or the engagement someone gets. My honest opinion? Does it matter? Yes, of course. Does it matter as much as you think it does? NO. Absolutely not. I’ve seen Reels with super poor video quality go viral – and Reels with top notch quality perform poorly. What matters more than your video quality is whether or not your content itself is engaging to your viewer. Remember, the strategy behind your content is what’s going to make the difference – not the pieces of equipment you have. How you bring your audience member in, what you’re sharing/teaching, and the type of content your audience needs is the most important part of any video content. 

Myth #5: Hashtag research & strategy is the way to go for fast growth

Hashtags aren’t totally dead but, putting all your eggs into that basket isn’t worth it anymore! If you’re a location-based business, hashtags can help you be seen locally but for most of us, they don’t matter a whole lot. Instead, I’d rather you put your energy into other parts of content creation than researching hashtags for hours. Hashtags are such a small, small piece of the pie when it comes to helping people find your content. 

Myth #6: Posting at a “right time” matters

The time of day that you post simply doesn’t matter! Stop believing this myth! If you can and have the ability to choose a time of day that your followers are more active, there can be benefits. But remember: Instagram strategy is partially about what’s sustainable for you. It’s not worth making yourself crazy over. It’s only boosting your post a little bit, trust me. In the long run, you’re not going to see more engagement as a result of posting at a “right time”. I really just don’t think posting times matter as much as we thought at one time.
