If you’re looking to grow faster on Instagram, one of the best things that you can do is look at your Instagram Insights report. This week, I’m taking you behind the scenes to check out my actual insights. We’ll discuss what I’m looking at – and what I’m looking for, and how all of that translates into my Instagram strategy. We’ll check out stats for my Stephanie Kase account, which has over 100K followers as well as our Stephanie Kase Education account, which has about 6K followers right now. Let’s dive in!
Reviewing Stephanie Kase Education’s Instagram Analytics
When you’re logged in with a business or creator account, tap on the professional dashboard under your bio and you’ll be able to see all of your insights. Immediately you’ll be able to see some good information about how your account is doing and how far it’s reaching. The first thing to note is that you can change the time frame at the top of the screen. I’ll be using the last 30 days. We’re looking at mid-March to mid-April.
Reviewing Followers
The first thing I want to look at is accounts reached – just to see who is seeing our account. My insights show a lot of my followers in the US and that we’re reaching quite a few non-followers through our Reels (listed under content reach). This doesn’t surprise me! I teach about this in the Instagram Growth Course, but Reels are definitely how to reach a new audience. As we keep scrolling, you can see Top Content but I’m going to look at this somewhere else.
Next, I want to look at our engaged audience. This tells us who is actually interacting with our content – not just seeing it. It’s interesting to see a lot of people in the US see our content, but more people from London actually engage. We’re engaging a lot of women and a decent number of our followers, too. For this account, we’re really focused on growth tactics. So, I’m happy to see such a huge number of engagement comes from our non-followers. If we wanted to be interacting with our existing audience and serving them, I’d be disappointed in this numbers.
Finally,, I want to look at our total followers. We just hit 6K followers today but you can also see the breakdown of who you’ve reached in the timeframe, too. I love being able to see how many people have followed us in the last 30 days and checking our follow to unfollow ratio. We’ve gained over 2,000 followers and only lost about 240, which I’m happy with. That tells us we’re doing a good job attracting the right people AND they’re sticking around. The rest of the information on this page is nice to know but nothing to really worry about. Check out your audience’s most active times for posting – you can actually click on the graph and see more numbers!
Content We’ve Shared
Go back to the main screen and select “content you shared”. Here, you can review the various pieces of content you’ve shared in your timeframe. Take a look for the overview there and if you look under the header, you’ll see “posts”, “stories”, and “reels” so you can actually look at each type of post individually. I’m going to start with our photo posts and see how those perform first. We do a mix of photo posts of myself with a caption and graphic carousels. I can see the carousels performed really well. All of ours have done pretty well for photo posts, but it’s nice to see what did a bit better. If you tap on the photo, you can actually see how many saves and likes you had, too.
Stories
Next, I’ll review stories. I like looking at these because I run the stories. Maggie helps me with the photo posts, but it’s good for me to know what people are liking since I manage our stories. I’m not surprised that my top story was when we hit 5K followers – a lot of you messaged me congrats, which was super sweet. We also had a poll do really well, which also doesn’t surprise me. Those tend to perform well, too. I did have one that didn’t do as well further down – so it’s important to remember that polls do well with the RIGHT topics. The fact that mirror selfies do well on this account makes me laugh, but I’ll definitely make sure to include more in the future!
Reels
Finally, I’m looking at Reels. Here, I want to look at a few things – the topic of the Reel and the format. I like to look at the reach stats here and then hop back to my profile to check out whatever performed well. For me, my Instagram Burnout really did well – over 10K views and then I have two others around 6K. Looking at what didn’t perform well (reach wise) is also important. This may be a topic or Reel format that doesn’t resonate with my audience as much. Next, you can change to look at the Reel engagement. I’m thrilled to see the same three Reels were in the top here too. Once I’m done with that, I’ll head back to my account and look at the top performing Reels. I want to review if we had a different call to action or certain footage or caption that helped. This helps me plan ahead for next month!
Reviewing Stephanie Kase’s Instagram Analytics
I run this account completely by myself. We’re at 106K followers and right now, we’ve just been maintaining followers here. I do plan to start ramping up to grow the account more here soon, but for now – it’s not been about growth tactics.
Reviewing Followers
Hopping into the dashboard, we can look at some of the same stats we just reviewed on the Stephanie Kase Education account. It’s not a surprise to me here to see my accounts reached and engaged are lower – I’m not actively working to reach new people. When I look at reach, about half of my audience is being reached when I do post, which is great news. About 7800 of my followers are engaging with my content, and honestly, I’d like to see the number a bit higher. I want to see more interaction with my current followers, which is harder with a bigger following. It’s not uncommon to see your engagement drop when your account gets in the hundreds of thousands of followers. But, it’s important to me to build and share content that’s engaging and informative for my current followers.
Content We’ve Shared
Next, I go through the types of content I’ve created. I’ve only shared 3 photo posts this month, but it’s neat to see what performed well. My posts did engage and reach quite a few of my followers, which again – is what I want. Looking at my stories, reach does seem a bit low. I’m used to seeing 5K+ reach on my stories. One thing I noticed is that people definitely love my sourdough posts! I also shared a lot about my birth story and the girls’ birthday, so it doesn’t surprise me that those performed well.
Looking at this, I really want to try to find more stories that will reach my current audience and resonate with them. That’s helpful to know! Something else I wanted to look at is my DM replies – this is important because it means I’m engaging my current audience. With my Reels, I don’t expect to see a lot here. I haven’t been as consistent as I want to be on this account. My top two Reels were about my breastfeeding journey, which tells me to create more content on that topic. One even began gaining traction outside my current audience!
I feel like looking through the insights on both accounts gave me lots of great information! Now I have an idea about where to take my content in the next month. I hope that this was helpful to you – and inspires you to take a peek at your insights!
