Auditing Your Instagram Accounts

Today, I’m doing something really fun and auditing three of my students’ Instagram accounts! I hope that by going through these accounts, you can see some ideas about what you can tweak and change about your own Instagram strategy for more success. These three accounts were pulled from a post we did in my Reels Mini Course Facebook group. It’s a really awesome community and I’m so happy to see the 100s of people in the group working on their Reels! Thank you again to these students for letting me take a peek at what they’ve got going on.

AUDITED ACCOUNTS

Maya Weather all – MSW Films 

The first account is Maya of MSW Films. Right off the bat, I think I get a really good sense of who Maya is, which is awesome! Her account is a great reminder of the idea that incorporating your personality is more important than a perfectly branded or curated feed. I really think Maya is doing a great job of letting her personality shine through. 

In her bio, there’s a few things I love. First, she has a call-to-action right in her bio. That’s perfect!! When I click on the link, it’s a little confusing so I’d recommend adding “NEW YOUTUBE VIDEO” or something similar on one of the buttons. However, when I look at the bio a little more in depth, I’m not clear on what she does. So one piece of advice is to make sure that your bio clearly states what you/your business does. 

When it comes to Reels, I love how much Maya’s personality comes through in her Reels! I noticed on a few Reels, her text didn’t change between screens. Consider putting new text in with each transition – that can help keep your followers engaged. Since I think she’s going for lifestyle content, I love how much her personality really shines through in the Reels. It does look like she’s got some great engagement going!!

Abby of Meringue & Co. 

Initial thoughts on Abby’s account… The branding is on point and I’m pretty obsessed with it! Her account definitely makes you want to learn more and it’s very obvious what she does. The call-to-action to order macarons is very clear so great job from that perspective, too! 

Looking at her Reels, it looks like she’s doing super well. A lot of her Reels have high views and engagement, so that’s awesome to see!! The only thing I’d recommend is when looking at the Reels is taking the time to make the “After” in your before and after reels even more of a WOW moment. Since so much of your other content is super well branded, it might help to make those final moments in your Reel even more powerful. Another thing to consider is that you want to add text in your Reels so people don’t have to search in the caption for what your Reel is about. That can help with engagement because then viewers know what they’re looking at! But overall, really great work, Abby!

Ingrid of IG Time Photography

The final account I’m going to be auditing is Ingrid, the owner of IG Time Photography. The first thing I’d recommend is in the bio to ensure that you don’t have the “see more” option, because it hides the important stuff, which for Ingrid is her inquiry line. For this account, I think by combining the lines that say “storyteller, capturing love, and saving your memories”, that will be possible. Her highlights are SO cute! I love how accessible her highlights are. 

Looking at the feed, the first thing I notice is that I want to see more of Ingrid – of your personality. The work is stunning, but I want to get to know Ingrid, the person behind the business. By adding more about yourself personally and creating a personal brand, you’ll really stand out among your competitors. 

When it comes to her Reels, it’s important to know that Reels don’t tend to work as well if you’re just taking images that could be a carousel post and turning them into a video. People would rather see the behind the scenes and final image, for example. I’d recommend finding ways to show your process or your journey through your Reels to give them a little boost. Using some of the trends that are popular now will help too – you can totally still use your images with those trends, though!!
