Instagram Strategy for Black Friday Sales (Reels, Posts, & Stories)

I cannot believe it, but Black Friday is already almost here!! This year, I am making some HUGE changes to my Black Friday strategy, and I am SO excited about it!! In this video, I’ll share my Instagram strategy for Black Friday sales that has worked wonders for my business, plus, I’ll give you a first look at what’s coming to the shop this year!! Tip #1: Plan Your Sales Ahead of Time

Have your Black Friday strategy planned! Here are some options to consider: A huge discount on your signature offer, bundles of multiple offers, buy one get one free, mystery offers, or all-access passes. Think about what you hope to accomplish, and what makes you excited to offer to your audience.

Tip #2: Make Your Offers Known

Tell your audience that Black Friday is coming multiple times. Remind them that your offers will be available, discounted, and, if you want to reveal the details, share those, too! This is a reflection of the way that I like to do launches in my own business. First, I lean heavily into social media in terms of launch promotion. During this time, I’m focused on building my email list, building hype, and getting people excited for the day that the launch comes.

Once launch day arrives, I pull back on social media and focus, instead, on my email list. Because I am continually funneling people from social media to my list, I know that by leaning into my list, I will increase my conversion rate. As a reminder, selling power is much higher inside your list than on social media.

Applying My Strategy to Black Friday 2023

This same Instagram strategy for Black Friday sales comes into play at SK. Whenever I actively want to sell something, I am intentional about how I’m showing up on stories and on my account as a whole. Instead of coming across as “sell, sell, sell” (which lowers my story views), I try to keep things as organic as possible. I mix in reminders about the launch & how much longer the launch will last while also posting lots of regular, enjoyable content. The last thing I want is to create a ton of Instagram stories, only for them to get pushed way down in engagement and never be seen.

Social Media Marketing Suggestions for Black Friday 

Here are some approaches you could have to Instagram content leading up to this Black Friday: Give your audience an opportunity to join your list and be the first to know about Black Friday sales (emphasize that they truly will be the first to know about the sales), or share details about what your Black Friday sale includes (with price points and offer information). 

This year, I am leaning into the share-details approach. At the end of this episode, I plan to share our entire Black Friday sale list including when offers begin and end. The goal is to get your audience excited about what is to come so that they’re ready to buy. During Black Friday, there are so many business owners promoting – and for good reason! This is a time when people are pulling out their wallets and ready to spend a lot of money. As business owners, we have to be strategic. Think, how can you get ahead of the game by letting your audience know what’s to come so that your emails aren’t buried in someone’s inbox when it matters most? Pique their interest so that if they want in on your offers, they know to look for it.

Tip #3: Encourage Social Proof

This year, I plan to encourage my students to share their purchases on social media. Again, I do not want to come across as “sell, sell, sell.” By sharing posts or stories created by other users who have purchased & loved my products, I can naturally create excitement about my sale on Instagram without it feeling too “sales-y.” On top of that, sharing testimonials from happy customers is going to have a much bigger impact than sharing content created by me. 

I hope to send our students who make a Black Friday purchase a story graphic they have the option to share on Instagram. Not only does it let others know that people are interested in & buying my products, but it’s another boost of social proof and getting the word out there to potential new students. 

Another idea is to have a contest! Perhaps a purchaser will win something like a gift card, a partial refund, or an additional product. They would enter the contest by posting a graphic to their story and sharing about your sale with their own followers.

Tip #4: Keep Evergreen Content in Mind

When I promote the Black Friday sale on social media, I will undoubtedly share one or two reels during the sale period. However, I want to keep my content evergreen – meaning, if people stumble upon it later, it should still be relevant. I might mention Black Friday in the caption or in the call to action, but overall, the content will be focused on education the viewer needs to hear. As I mentioned earlier, I will utilize stories during the Black Friday sale period to remind my audience of what sale is beginning or coming to an end. This will be especially important to our strategy this year because our offers will change from pre-Black Friday to Black Friday weekend to Cyber Monday!

If you share about Black Friday in your own content, I recommend sharing reels in advance, letting your audience know what sales are coming. Tip #5: Make It Fun!

Think about your offers from the consumer’s perspective. They are going to see SO many Black Friday sales. Make sure that yours feels fun! Instagram is a great place to incorporate neat ideas such as doors open, themed sales, or offers that are unlocked. Don’t be afraid to add your own spin on it, give things fun names, and make your offers stand out for people as they consume the content about your sale.

What’s Coming Black Friday for SK
