At this point in my business, over one half of all my wedding couples purchase at least one album… and I expect that number to go up as I continue to increase in my pricing! Without a doubt, albums have become a huge part of my photography business and has allowed me to increase my revenue dramatically.
However, it hasn’t always been this way. In fact, when I first started offering albums, I didn’t sell a single one… for an ENTIRE YEAR. Yup, it took one year to sell even ONE album, and that was for a wedding 6 months away.
You might be thinking… what’s the change? How did I “all of a sudden” start selling way more albums? I don’t think there was one big change that made the switch, but a lot of little changes!
As you start moving into the higher end market, you are going to naturally attract brides who are interested in investing more in albums. However, there is still a LOT you can do to encourage album sales! I’m sharing 3 things I implemented in my business that encouraged album sales from my couples:
- Incorporate photos and video of your albums on your website and social media. I include myself flipping through an album in my promo video, photos of albums on my wedding information page on my website, photos of albums in my investment PDF guide. Showing visuals to your couples before they even reach out will put it in their minds that albums are a crucial part of the experience and that they are worth investing in!
- Include a sample album in your wedding consultation. First of all, if you don’t have a sample album, order one! They are typically discounted from your album company so they are more affordable. If you don’t show someone what they can get, they are not very likely to purchase it. To go even further, incorporate your album in some way besides just showing it to them and telling them about the album. I walk them through the wedding day with my album to bring up different points! This shows them (without actually telling them) how an album can tell the story of their day and essentially allows them to see it in action.
- Give some sort of incentive (such as a booking discount) to purchase your albums. I don’t mean giving them a discount literally, but making the albums seem appealing at the time of booking! There are many different approaches to this: You could give a discount for purchasing it at the the time of booking, discount anytime before the wedding, discount more as they buy more albums (In other words, the more albums they buy, the more discounted it is). I personally go with the booking discount, but giving some sort of incentive helps to drive album sales! I highly encourage you to try a few different things and see what works best for you and your business!
Is there anything else you’ve implemented to drive more album sales? I’d love to know! Feel free to comment below with your suggestions, or let me know if you have any questions! I’m cheering for you!
