Today, we’re going to dive into exactly how I am getting a super bright and airy look to my images when it comes to my brand. These are the images I post on social media and for my brand. This bright, aesthetic look to my photos helps keep my brand consistent, no matter where I’m sharing images and I’m going to give you my top tips on how to achieve a similar consistent look for your brand. Let’s dive in!
EDITING MY IMAGES
The first step for a consistent look to your images is thinking about how you want to edit your images. So, when it comes to editing and the style, you can really go a lot of different directions with this. I personally love using my mobile presets to edit my images within the free, mobile Lightroom app. If you like my light and airy style, the mobile presets can help you achieve that! But essentially, you want to make sure that overall your brand’s images are consistent – whether or not you use a light and airy style is up to you. Whatever you choose, be consistent.
Beyond editing the images you take, you need to consider the photographers you hire as you create brand imagery. For me, I do a combination of self-portraits with my phone and timer that I edit (or my DSLR!) and I hire photographers a few times a year for branding or family portraits. I think it’s important that I hire a photographer that has the same editing style as me, so that the final images are consistent with my brand. It doesn’t have to be exact, but it should be consistent enough that your images would still work for your brand.
SHOOTING THE PHOTOS
Next, you need to think about actually shooting and capturing the images. There’s a few things you want to keep in mind to help achieve that light and airy aesthetic in your images. The first thing is to be mindful about the location you choose. This might seem obvious, but it’s something so many of us overlook (especially at first!). If you have a more light and airy look, you probably want to stick with light colored backdrops or walls – not the dark greys or greens, for example. Whether I’m photographing myself or working with a photographer, we’re being really intentional about the locations we choose. Next, consider the lighting you’re using. Natural light is always going to be the best option, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. It photographs more cleanly and helps your images look more professional. I have a FREE lighting lesson you can check out here, and it shows you how to get bright photos, even in a darker room.
One other thing to consider when shooting your images is the outfits you’re wearing. Honestly, I think this is often overlooked! If you are wanting super light and airy images, then you’re going to want to wear lighter colored clothing. Trust me, it makes editing easier and helps make sure that you’re conveying your overall brand in each image.
CURATING FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
Now, the last thing you need to do when you want a bright and aesthetic look to your photos on Instagram or online is to actually share your images. I think a lot of people these days are really looking for real content and photos – not perfection, so keep that in mind as you begin to plan images. For years, everyone wanted the perfectly curated feed but I don’t think that’s the case anymore. I think that desire for genuine connection relieves some of the pressure to have a perfect feed, so consider that your permission slip! Instead, I aim for consistency across all my platforms. I want my images to have the same feel, even if they’re from different shoots.
Here’s a few tips for creating that flow on Instagram. If you’re doing Reels (and you should be!), use your images in your Reels Cover photos. I sell templates for your cover photos to help you create a good flow. They’re designed in Canva, so they’re super easy to use. Customize them with your brand colors and then use your light and airy images on them! It helps create consistency and brand awareness. You can also use a planning app to preview and adjust your feed as you work, too. I personally LOVE Later for this. I have a full tutorial HERE about how to use Later. But, I love it because I can make sure my images are flowing well together.
I hope this was really helpful and gets you thinking about some things when it comes to having a consistent look to your images for your brand.
