Does that idea seem crazy to you at all?! Really, it’s true! There are ways to NETWORK with other wedding vendors through your details photos, and in ways that don’t take a lot of time. You’re already shooting the weddings, so using the work you’re already doing to network is a powerful way to run your business.
Before we jump right in, I do want to clarify that you want to network with vendors in the RIGHT way. You’re not networking just to book more weddings and get referrals… nope. Although that is an amazing bonus to networking, your main focus should really be to serve the people well around you and to build relationships with people who are working the same weddings you are. The community you can build by networking far outweighs any dollar amount you’d gain from it!
BEFORE THE WEDDING: If there’s a vendor I’ve connected with before, or who serves similar brides as I do and we work together a lot… I will email them before the wedding to ask if there are ANY shots they are looking for! By being proactive and doing this, not only is it one more connection point with them, but you know exactly what they are looking for in photos from the wedding you’re working together. It only takes a couple of minutes to send that email, and the extra thought goes a LONG way! I’ve done this for venues, planners, and florists I love working with!
AFTER THE WEDDING: Follow through and send them the FULL GALLERY of images. Guys, it’s still crazy to me how many photographers don’t have this a part of their workflow! This is really important and is such a simple, easy way to build an amazing reputation in your area with other vendors. I send a questionnaire a couple months out from my weddings where they give me all their vendor information. That way, I have it on hand to send full galleries after a wedding day over to all the vendors!
BONUS TIP: Shortly after the wedding, send the sneak peeks you already send to your couple to key vendors from a wedding! They will be THRILLED and excited to share!
GOING THE EXTRA MILE: Provide a gallery of details FILLED with variety. Any vendor involved, from the florist to the planner to the venue are ALL going to appreciate how you photograph their work beautifully and with a lot of variety. If you are able to provide this to them, you’re going to serve them SO well. My bridal details folders alone are often around 100 images, plus at least 100 more images of venue (ceremony & reception) details ALONE. I do this by getting a lot of different backgrounds, angles, horizontal and vertical, mix up what’s in the shot, and more!
