When it comes to creating video content, one thing I hear a lot is that you feel NERVOUS getting in front of the camera.
What do I say? How do I have good camera presence? How can I be CONFIDENT in front of the camera and not get inside my head?
I feel ya, and I’ve been there. But I’m excited to share that this week’s YouTube video is ALL about how to have confidence on camera while filming videos!
Tune in below:
My tips for increasing your confidence on camera:
- Act like you’re speaking to one person. Even better, act like it’s your best friend! Think of the camera as a PERSON and not a scary thing pointed at you. If you can visualize yourself sitting down and having a casual chat with a friend, it makes this pat even easier!
- Write outlines of what you want to talk about in your videos. This makes it SO easy to sit down and film your videos because you know what you want to say! I don’t necessarily write out what I want to say word for word, because I like to keep my videos super casual. However, I DO love writing general outlines with bullet points so I know the main points I want to hit! This allows me to know what to say next and not draw a blank as I’m sitting in front of the camera.
- You can always edit out your mistakes. Okay, so I really DON’T want you to get in the habit of thinking you can just edit everything later… because it will save you SO much time if you can just push yourself and not repeat yourself 1,000 times. However, when you’re just getting started, it’s TOTALLY okay if you have to repeat yourself or a section of your video more than once to get it right. I still have days sometimes where it’s just not clicking well and I have to keep repeating myself!
- The more you do it, the easier it gets. I know it’s a little cliche, but it’s SO true when it comes to making videos. It gets SO much easier the more that you film videos! It truly becomes so natural to you and you don’t have to think about how to do it anymore. The more you practice, the easier it will be and the less nervous you will be to film!
- SMILE when you talk! This is so important! If you want your listeners to be engaged with your video, SMILE and have a more upbeat tone to your voice to keep them engaged with what you’re saying.
- Be yourself. Also cliche, but TRUE. Stay true to who YOU are in your videos. Don’t use certain phrases because your favorite YouTuber uses them… don’t say “hey girl” because it’s a catchy phrase, but you don’t actually say it in real life. Use phrases and words and the way you say things like YOU would say them. This will allow people to fall in love with who you are, not a copy of someone else!
