12 Apps & Programs Every Photographer Needs

September 4, 2018

As a photographer, you do a lot more than just taking photos… in fact, you quickly realize that you probably spend the LEAST amount of time doing that!! You spend way more time running a BUSINESS as opposed to shooting. Today I’m sharing my TOP 12 apps & programs that make running my photography business a breeze!

These are just my top 12, but if you want my FULL list of apps & programs that I use to run my business, subscribe to the SK Tribe below to grab your freebie:

  1. Lightroom. If you don’t use this yet for your editing, YOU NEED IT NOW!! It seriously is a game changer. No more editing one photo at a time… you can literally sync your edits! It’s perfect for wedding and portrait photographers!
  2. Photo Mechanic. I’ve talked about my love for Photo Mechanic before, but seriously guys… it allows you to cull SUPER quickly. It basically takes those RAW photos you see in your camera and loads previews instantly, so it allows you to pick your favorites super fast! It’s a one time fee and one of the best investments I’ve made in my business!
  3. BlogStomp. If you blog your photo sessions, you NEED this!! It’s so easy and fast to make collages. See those collages I have on my blog posts of two vertical images side by side? They’re made in a couple clicks with BlogStomp!!
  4. Honeybook. If you don’t have a client management software, GET ONE. It allows you to seamlessly manage invoices, contracts, questionnaires, and workflows SO STINKIN’ EASY, it’s amazing. It sends automatic reminders based on the workflows you set up. It allows you to feel like you are doing everything you want to for every client without letting anything fall through the cracks. 5. Trello. Instead of having a billion things written down in a ton of different places, I use Trello to keep my to-do lists organized! I use it to stay on top of my workflow for each wedding and session, as well as an on-going to do list. There’s an app for this as well, which makes it really easy for me to see what’s on the to-do list when I’m on the go, or to add something to it quickly while I’m out!
  6. Later. This is my FAVORITE social media planning app! I mainly use it for Instagram to plan out all of my posts. It will send you a reminder when you need to hit “publish” on a post that you’ve already pre-written and scheduled, so that you can post at optimal times! It also lets you get a preview of what your feed will look like based on what you have scheduled. Cool, right?!
  7. Tail Wind. I’ve more recently been playing with this for Pinterest! It allows you to schedule pins for a Pinterest board. You save the pins on a secret board, then it posts a certain number of pins to your live board every day, so you don’t overload your audience and stay on a consistent schedule. If you’re looking to up your Pinterest game, definitely check it out!!
  8. Lightroom (the app). If you pay for Adobe Creative Cloud, you hve access to this app! It has ALL of the same settings that lightroom does and you can even create presets, just like Lightroom! This is my FAVORITE app for making my iPhone photos look cohesive with my professionally edited photographs!
  9. Unfold. This app will give you those pretty Instagram stories that you’ve been seeing everywhere!
  10. Moment. I never realized how much time I was spending on my phone before I downloaded this. Oh  my word, it adds up like you wouldn’t believe! This app is totally free and is really eye opening. I started out at an average of 3 hours every day. Yikes!!! My excuse of  “I go on Instagram just to post a quick photo” was obviously not working, haha. I highly recommend downloading it, you’ll gain HOURS back!

Are there any must-haves I’m missing?! Tell me below what your favorite app or program is for running your business! I’d LOVE to know what I’m missing out on!
