My Vision for My Business – Renew Night 2016

January 11, 2016

When I first heard about Renew Night, I knew I had to go!! I signed up on the first day, and it turned out to be an absolutely amazing night! I loved hearing the speakers and hearing their stories, meeting new friends, and drinking some punch. :)

Ashley and Kari each shared their journeys since starting their businesses and were completely honest about where they’re at. They discussed comparison and how it’s the thief of joy. They challenged us to define what we call success, and explained how it looks different for everyone. How true success is not just to shoot a certain number of weddings… but so much more! It’s about having freedom in your business and not letting it drown you. Chrissy gave us practical ways to apply these concepts to our business and how to stay afloat.

While hearing them talk, I learned I really NEED to have a vision statement and define my own version of success. I generally know what I want to accomplish in my business, but I didn’t have a concrete statement about where I was going. It’s caused me to really think and reflect on it over the past couple days.

When I think about success in my business, I want to serve my clients in the best way possible. I don’t want to just deliver great pictures (although, don’t get my wrong, it is still SO important to have beautiful photos!) but for them to look back and think “Wow, she made a positive impact in my life.” Even if it’s only in a small way, I want them to feel loved and cared for in a positive way. Additionally, I want to be a supporter of their marriage, and marriage in general… I truly believe it’s such a wonderful gift from God and I’m so glad my couples are willing to take that step!

All of this is very important to me within my business. However, I also want to continue to “succeed” at other ares in my life and not let my business consume me. I don’t want to be so tied to it 24/7 and find myself constantly saying no to friends, family, and my relationship with God. Right now, it’s feels easy for me to say no. I have the pressure of spending time and energy towards school keeping me from saying yes. But once busy season hits, it will be much harder to juggle everything… it’s so important for me to realize I don’t have to say yes to everything that comes my way, or yes to every task that needs to be done in my business. It’s okay to say no or need someone else’s help in my business!

Lastly, in everything that I do, I want to give all the glory to God. My entire business is here because He’s brought me every opportunity to shoot and every wedding I’ve been able to attend. When I say I want to make a positive impact on my clients, I want to make an impact for HIM. My business this year has grown SO much more than I could ever imagine. It’s definitely not because of my own efforts, but because He brought it all to me in His timing.  I am very grateful for the growing business He’s given me and I can’t thank Him enough.

What a fantastic way to start 2016. I can’t wait for what’s to come.
