If you’re someone who needs help learning how to add text to a Reel, I’ve got you! Today’s video is all about how to add, edit, and change the text you add to your Instagram Reels. Grab that recorded video, and let’s get to it! 

The first thing you need is your Instagram Reel. If you aren’t sure how to make an Instagram Reel, you can see some other tutorials here. Once you have your video pulled up, you have two options to get the text. Simply hit anywhere on the screen and you’ll be able to type (like Instagram Stories). Or, you can click the “Aa” in the top right corner and it will pull up the same thing. 

Adding Text

Now, it’s time to add your text. After you’ve added your text, you can modify the colors, fonts, and layout just like Instagram stories. Pro-tip here, you can totally change the colors you have available to you by clicking the eye dropper and then selecting the color in the image what you want OR you can hold down on the color and a gradient slider will appear. This can be a nice way to make your font look more like part of your video – or match what’s in it! You can also change the actual font type at the bottom of the screen if you want to, as well.

Moving Text

Similarly to stories, you can click the text and drag it around to decide where it will lay on the frame. It’s important to remember to keep things in the middle section of your video so they can be seen in the grid! Now, you’ll notice that at the bottom that any time you add new text, a little bubble will appear at the bottom of your screen. This is important – and how you’ll be able to change when the text appears! 

If you don’t want text in the entire video, select the text box at the bottom. Use the white sliders on the clip to move them to whatever part of the video you want the text to show up. Hit “done” when you’ve finished that section. Now you can go to the next piece of writing. You’ll follow that process until you’ve added all the text the way you want! 

If you have trouble when you share your Reel, I would recommend saving the video before uploading and then re-uploading it again. For some reason this fixes the little glitch that Instagram has going on right now!
