As a small business owner, you’ve probably set ambitious goals or invested money in big plans. However, those goals get stuck in the “someday” pile. Sound familiar? It doesn’t have to be this way! Let’s talk about how to reach business goals this year so you can finally gain momentum and move the needle in your business.

Here’s how to set goals you’ll actually reach and make sure they’re aligned with your long-term vision.
1. Start with a Vision for Where You Want to Be
One of the best ways to gain clarity is to focus on the transformation you want. Instead of dwelling on what’s not working, envision where you want to be. For example, rather than saying, “I want to stop neglecting my email list,” flip it into a positive: “By December, I will have a thriving email list that nurtures and converts my audience!”
This mindset shift turns your goals into exciting opportunities rather than overwhelming tasks. Plus, it helps you stay motivated, focusing on the reward rather than the struggle!
2. Find Accountability in a Community
Let’s be honest: going it alone can be tough. One of the quickest ways to gain traction is to surround yourself with like-minded people. Whether it’s a mastermind, group coaching, or a membership, being part of a community provides:
- Support when you hit roadblocks.
- Motivation by seeing others succeed.
- Feedback to refine your strategies.
In fact, that’s one reason I created the Online Marketing Club! Inside, members not only get access to actionable resources but also join a community of ambitious business owners cheering each other on.
Quick Tip: When you invest your money in something, you’re more likely to follow through. For many of us, that financial commitment serves as a nudge to take action.
3. Reassess Your Goals Quarterly
While annual goals are great, quarterly goals give you the flexibility to adjust as your business evolves. Start with a vision for the year, but break it into manageable quarterly milestones. This allows you to:
- Respond to what’s working (or not).
- Tweak strategies based on new opportunities.
- Stay focused without feeling overwhelmed by long-term plans.
Pro tip: Use tools like Trello boards or wall calendars to keep your quarterly goals visible. Seeing them daily can be a game-changer in staying aligned with your priorities. You can grab the same wall calendars I use for monthly & quarterly planning right here!
4. Break It Down—and Then Break It Down Again
Big goals feel intimidating. The trick is to break them into smaller, actionable steps. For example, if your goal is to launch a YouTube channel:
- January: Set up your channel and buy equipment.
- February: Film and edit your first video.
- March: Publish your first two videos.
Within each of these steps, break it down further. Instead of “film video,” outline tasks like “write a script” or “set up lighting.” The smaller the task, the easier it feels to get started—and the more likely you are to follow through.
5. Take Advantage of Tools Designed to Help
Sometimes, all you need is a little extra help to stay consistent. That’s where the Online Marketing Club comes in! Not only will you get fresh ideas for content creation (like weekly reels prompts), but you’ll also gain access to a supportive community and regular coaching. Whether you’re tackling Instagram, email marketing, or YouTube, this membership can help you move from “thinking about it” to “doing it.”
