In this episode, I’m sharing a snippet from a recent coaching call inside the Online Marketing Club! During the call, I workshop a content strategy for one of my students detailing what her business lends itself to, what she should try and why it will work best for her. The student is an author, and we go on to talk about Pinterest strategy for small business owners. Listen to the episode to hear how it goes!

As a small business owner, you’ve likely wondered how to maximize your marketing efforts without adding tons of working hours to your week. This week, we explored a question during a coaching session inside the Online Marketing Club: Can Pinterest serve as a cornerstone for content marketing, even without a blog or YouTube channel?
The answer: Absolutely, but strategy matters. Let’s dive into how to use Pinterest effectively and what makes it a standout platform for creators (such as authors).
Why Pinterest? It’s the Evergreen Powerhouse
Pinterest is unique because it blends the qualities of short-form, visual platforms with the longevity of evergreen content. Unlike Instagram, where posts have a short shelf life, Pinterest pins can continue to generate traffic and engagement for months—or even years! This makes it an ideal platform for creators looking to reach new audiences over time.
Pinterest’s highly visual nature is a perfect match for business owners with visually appealing offers. You can use high-quality images of your products. Examples would include styled book flat-lays or short videos flipping through pages. This would help capture attention and inspire action!
Key Strategies for Authors on Pinterest
- Direct Links to Your Products
Pinterest can serve as a direct path to your offer. By creating pins with visually appealing designs, you can link users directly to your online store or sales page. Bonus tip: Include a strong call-to-action like “Curl up with this faith-filled read today!” - Grow Your Email List
Pair Pinterest with a lead magnet. A free devotional or an excerpt from your book would be perfect. Use visually engaging pins to drive traffic to a landing page where visitors can download your freebie in exchange for their email address. This bridges the gap between Pinterest’s evergreen reach and more personal, timely communication. - Repurpose Your Content
Are you already writing blogs or creating videos? Use those as the backbone for Pinterest content. For instance, turn a blog post about “Daily Faith Practices” into several Pinterest pins. Each pin can feature a snippet of your advice, enticing users to click through to your full content.
Does Pinterest Work Without a Blog or YouTube?
Yes, but you’ll need to supplement Pinterest’s traffic-driving capabilities with tools like email marketing to build deeper connections. While Pinterest excels at discovery, platforms like email or social media provide the warmth and personal engagement that turn followers into loyal customers.
For authors, this might mean using Pinterest to share visually compelling pins about your devotionals, which lead to a landing page with a free resource. From there, nurture your audience through an email newsletter filled with updates, inspiration, and exclusive offers.
Smarter Marketing with Content Stacking
One game-changing tip shared in our coaching session is the concept of content stacking. This involves creating one long-form piece of content—like a YouTube video or blog post—and breaking it into smaller, reusable pieces. For example:
- A YouTube video becomes a blog post.
- The blog post transforms into Pinterest pins, Instagram reels, and email content.
This approach amplifies your reach across platforms without requiring new content from scratch.
Get Creative and Take Action
If you’re ready to explore Pinterest as a key part of your content strategy, start small. Focus on creating a few visually stunning pins that link to your offer, or experiment with promoting a lead magnet. Over time, the consistent effort will build a system that keeps working for you—even when you’re not online.
