Today, Michael is joining me on the podcast to share that… we’re moving to Greenville, South Carolina! We’re going to walk through some of the big questions we expect to get about this move and if we didn’t answer your question, make sure you follow along on Instagram so that you can ask there. We currently live in Columbus, Ohio (the Midwest), so we’re excited to be moving down south. It’s been a goal of ours to move south since we graduated college. We visited all of the major cities in North and South Carolina, but we ended up deciding on Greenville!
Why are we moving to Greenville, SC?
Well, we visited and I wouldn’t say we didn’t fall in love with it right away. We enjoyed it and thought it was nice. After our visit, we spent time in Roanoke VA with Michael’s grandmother and during one of the prayer groups, they prayed over our move. During the prayer, we both felt that Greenville was the place we should go. It was really cool to feel that at the same time in the prayer. So, we felt like God was telling us that’s where we should be. Before that moment, we’d done a round trip of where we thought we might move and didn’t feel like there was a clear or certain place. But we got that really clear direction from God last year.
We’ve known for awhile that this is where we wanted to go now, but Michael’s mother was diagnosed with cancer last summer so we decided to stay here. We renewed our lease and stayed here for another year. Looking back, it was the right decision. Because we were here, we could be with her and show up for her when she needed. Then I ended up getting pregnant, and it just made everything easier to stay put.
When are you moving?
By Thanksgiving, we need to be out of our rental. We’ve been watching for rentals and keeping an eye out for something that was in our price point. A house has been important to us because of the dogs and the babies. We’ve had the dogs for a few years now and we’ve always had to walk them outside for the bathroom and such. It will be nice to find something with a fenced yard for them! We’re excited that we do have something lined up, we just aren’t there yet. It was worth more to us to find a place we loved, lock it, and pay a few extra weeks while Michael finished up his job here in Ohio. I guess that leads to the next question…
What’s the plan for Michael’s work?
Michael’s quitting his job! He’s been with the company since he got out of college, but we’re excited to be starting a new chapter. Michael will be helping me with the business, we’ll be starting a second business, and he’ll be home to help with the babies even more. We’re all excited for this next phase for us! It was always an idea for us. I’ve always worked hard to have a business that can be flexible and would let me be at home a lot, and I want the same thing for Michael. When I was pregnant, we began talking to our life coach about the possibility and finding out how we could prepare to make it happen.
God has blessed my business and given us the chance to make this happen. It’s going to require some lifestyle changes for us, but that’s okay. Those things (like grocery deliveries and cleaning services) have served us well in this phase but we’re excited to find out how to make this new chapter work for us. It’s been totally doable for him to quit, though, and that’s exciting to see. We could have him keep working but the lifestyle change of having him here more is so worth it all. We’ve been trying to live off just the business for a few months so it’s not a cold transition, so I’m thankful for that too. So, we just really want to capitalize on this season of life and take advantage of all the time that we’re able to have with our babies.
Our New House
Our new house has four bedrooms! We currently live in 1,000 square foot two bedroom townhome. It’s basically double the square footage and has a fenced yard. I think it’s going to serve us really well! We’re each going to get our own office and then we’ll have an extra room basically. We’ve always lived in smaller spaces, so this is going to feel huge to us! I love moving too because we just get to go through the things we’ve accumulated and purge. It’s a great time. We don’t really have that much because we’ve learned to be strategic about things. I am excited about my new office. I like creating a space that’s inspiring to walk into.
Why We Love Greenville
We’re so excited about Greenville. I guess we haven’t talked about why we love it here, but if you’ve ever been to Greenville, you know it’s fun. It’s super family friendly and has lots of things to do with kids. It’s a really cute city and downtown has that small town charm to it. There’s also a lot of outdoor living and outdoor-minded people there. There’s a great bike trail with breweries and coffee shops along it and it’s just close to the mountains. It’s great. It’s also close to Charleston, Atlanta, and Disney. It’s really a great place for our family!
I think that’s all we’ve got to share for now! We’re so excited about this move for our family and can’t wait to share even more about it with you all. Make sure to follow along on Instagram for more behind the scenes of the move and more Q & A!
