Ever wish someone could show you exactly how to make an Instagram Reel? Today’s video is a workshop style to help you create your first (or next!) Reels! I’m going to show you exactly how I make these Reels as I go so you can come along with me and make Instagram reels with me in real time. It’s going to be a lot of fun, so let’s get started!
Getting Started
Whenever I film Reels, I put my phone onto my smartphone tripod to get ready! It makes it super easy to be hands free and at the right height to film. Then I go into my Instagram app and my saved sounds to pull up the audio I want to use. For me, when I start filming, there’s a very good chance I don’t know what text I’m going to put on the video yet. I say that because I want to give you that permission and peace of mind: film them with me, add them to drafts and then you can add your text and caption later on!
Lip Sync
The first video we’re making is a lip sync (get the sound here), so once you’re ready, hit “use audio” under the clip. I always add a filter under effects but you don’t have to! Whenever I do lip syncs, I’ll listen to the audio and do some practice a few times so I know I’m going to nail the timing. This one is pretty simple, so you can do it!! When you’re ready to film, put on the timer and film. You’ve got this! After filming, I’ll trim down the clip to match the timing and add my text (see my full tutorial here on how to do that!). A big tip here: once you’re done adding text, save your Reel. It won’t save with the sound but you’ll have the video to pair with the sound again! Once you’ve downloaded it to your phone, save it as a draft. Now it’s ready for you when you have the time to work on captions and sharing.
POV Lip Sync
Tap audio and hit “use audio”. For this one (sound here!) ,I’m going to take my phone off my tripod and do more of a selfie style for this video! Since we’re trying to get two points of view for this video, I’m going to make sure I stand in two different places in the room (I just pivoted where I stood!). This helps change the POV enough that you can get the feel of the video. Now, record just like we did the previous lip sync. Add text, save it to your phone and add it to your drafts.
Multiple POVs
For this one, it’s all about sharing things that didn’t work out and ending with a recommendation of what would work out. This could be something you’ve done or something your ideal client might be doing (a chance to pitch your services!). Ready to start? Get the sound here! This video will require a couple clips at different angles so I’m going to film some on my tripod and some as a selfie.
If you wind up making any of these Reels, make sure to tag me on Instagram or share them with me via DM. I can’t wait to see what you create! And…. spoiler alert!
