Michael and I celebrated our FIRST wedding anniversary on July 9th and wow, I can’t BELIEVE it’s already been one year of marriage! On our anniversary day, Michael had a big test so we didn’t get a chance to spend time together until 10pm that evening. It was the most special night that I will never forget. We read our vows to each other and washed each other’s feet (just like we did on our wedding day).
Our schedules were a little crazy right around our anniversary so we planned a long weekend trip for a few weeks later (this past weekend!). It was seriously SO MUCH FUN. We’ve done a lot of traveling this year so we wanted more of a stay-cation. We ended up finding a better Airbnb in Cincinnati, so we drove a couple hours down there to explore the city!
Our trip was complete with lots of coffee (aka chai latte) dates, eating macarons (Michael’s first time), staying at the most ADORABLE Airbnb (it was light blue, guys. That’s MY COLOR), walking by the river, and buying THREE new plants (we have lovingly called one of them our furry cactus), and drinking sparkling apple cider we had saved from our wedding day (because we forgot to drink it on our actual anniversary day #reallife).
Even though we got to explore a lot of the city and do a lot of things, my favorite part about our trip was simply resting and being PRESENT with Michael. I put away my phone for the entire 3 days (no social media + barely responded to texts) and wow, was it refreshing. There’s something about just being completely present with each other that really reconnects you. It’s so easy to be busy in the rush of life and to not spend QUALITY time together… this trip made us realize that. Hanging out in our PJ’s most of the day, binge-watching our favorite shows, and putting away distractions to have REAL conversation was simply the BEST PART of the trip. Unplugging gave us room to dream together about our future and reflect on what we want to change going into year two… and I can’t wait to see what God has in store.
Michael, thanks for being the best husband I could ever be given. You exceed my wildest dreams every day… marriage is not easy, but it’s WORTH IT and I’m just glad I get to do it with you. I can’t wait for our second year and to see what it holds, and to keep growing and dreaming with you!
