Hello hello!!
Something REALLY exciting happened that I JUST announced this past week! I was formerly “Stephanie Brann Photography” and my name has now officially changed to “Stephanie Kase Photography” :)
In case you haven’t heard, I got married this past summer to the love of my life, Michael Kase. On July 9, 2017 we were married at Oak Grove (view our wedding day here!). Before our wedding day, I had a little tug on my heart that legitimately thought about changing my business name along with my legal name after getting married. Before then, I had no intention of changing my business name, but about a couple months before our wedding day, I just couldn’t put the thought out of my mind!
This began months of a lot of thought, a lot of prayer, and gathering wisdom and advice from other friends, family, and other photographers & business owners.
I am proud of my maiden name and the business I formed from it. There was a lot of growth and so many good things happened! I am proud that I began my business at such a young age, so young that it was before I was even married (and I also got married young, so that’s saying something!). Changing it is not saying I am NOT proud of that fact, because I truly am!! I photographed my first wedding at age 17 so it is such a big part of my story! :)
However, I also LOVE being married to my husband. And I love my new name. I love the flow of it and I loved taking his last name after getting married. And being married has been one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given me. I want to move forward with my new name, and even though I have been in business for a few years, I plan to be in it for many years to come. I would rather spend the next several years as Stephanie Kase, rather than Stephanie Brann, even though I was Stephanie Brann before!
My biggest worries were mainly two things: What if it confused my past clients, and what if I lost business because of it?! So scary to think about, right? However, God has showed me so many ways to get around these obstacles. I’ve figured out so many ways to make sure that any trace of “Stephanie Brann Photography” leads them back to “Stephanie Kase Photography.” So many things were shown to me in such a short span of time that I just couldn’t deny that God was revealing it all to me!!
There are SO MANY reasons to change or not to change… I went back and forth on it for SO LONG!! But this is the scary (but also reassuring) part about running a business and letting God lead your life & business: I feel completely at peace about changing my name. I know that He is going to use it for good, and even though I can’t totally see all of the pieces now… and sometimes, the fear of losing potential business creeps in… I KNOW that this is what He wants me to do. I feel completely that this is what I should be doing. I would NOT feel at peace about sticking what my maiden name, for whatever reason! He has given me clear direction, so I am trusting and running full speed ahead with it, knowing that it’s what He wants me to do! And that He’s doing it for a reason!!! Even if I can’t see all of it now! :) He ultimately brings me all the couples I am made to serve, and I am trusting that He will do that regardless of changing my name! Because He has shown how good He is at doing this in the past. :)
And as for my past clients? I have been so blessed with the BEST couples, and so many of them closely follow my journey on my blog, Instgram, Facebook, etc. So many of them emailed me after getting married saying congratulations!! So I already know that they all are aware of that, excited about it, and I believe it’s going to make sense to them with my name change! :)
I’m so excited about what’s to come with Stephanie Kase Photography, and all the things God has planned for this business of mine!! I’m learning to trust in Him and His goodness, and to be FEARLESS in my trust in Him!
To anyone considering a name change, it’s not as scary as it sounds. I would especially encourage (most) photographers who don’t currently use their name in their business name and are considering switching it to make the jump. There are so many things you can do to make sure past clients find you! :) I’m cheering you on!
