For Photographers: How to Write Blog Posts for Wedding Days

April 24, 2018

Hey photographers!! Something I have done for every single wedding in my business is publish a wedding day blog post… within one week. I have done this consistently for every single wedding and it is one of the BEST pieces of marketing I’ve done! It has grown my business in so many ways.

One of the biggest hurdles photographers face in putting together blog posts is knowing what to write. I mean, pictures speak a thousand words… so why do we even have to write anything? Can’t we just say a few quick sentences and move on?

I think not writing much at all is not the best use of blog posts!! Words are POWERFUL and they can make a post so meaningful. Saying that every single wedding was beautiful and amazing only goes so far- every wedding I have shot has been INCREDIBLE, but there are so many more details you can include!! I am NOT a writer, by any means… I actually hated writing growing up. However, I’ve STLIL found a way to well round out my blog posts, and now it comes really naturally to me to write one up!! :)

Here are a few quick tips to help you write better wedding day blog posts:

  1. Share about the couple: how they met, how he proposed, what they love doing together, etc. This already gives your readers who don’t know the couple some insight into who they are! You can easily write a whole paragraph about all of this, especially if you asked them about it all at some point beforehand! :)
  2. Share about specific details from their day. Keyword being SPECIFIC! What did the best man say about them in his toast? Did she have a detail that was especially meaningful, like something sewn into her dress? What was the meaning behind that? Why did they choose their venue? Things like that really add more meaning to the post and tells about their day! It requires some intention the day of their wedding to pick up on these things, but the effort really goes a long way.
  3. Write a note to the couple. I just started incorporating this part this year and I have LOVED it!! At the end of the post (before all the images begin), I will include a quick “note” to my couple. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but something sweet that shows how you’re genuinely grateful for them, and maybe include a few things you would say you loved about their day, the way they are, etc.!

Hope this helps! I have so much more to share on this topic, so keep an eye out for a potential downloadable PDF coming soon!! :) YAY! Happy blogging!!
