In today’s quick tutorial, I’m going to show you how to add text to your Instagram Reel! I’ll be sharing my screen so you can follow along with me through literally each step. Make sure to hit play on the video below. Let’s jump in!

Add Text to Instagram Reels

So, if you look at your Instagram Reels editor, the first thing you need to do is add your video. This could be one you recorded previously – or it may be something you’re recording now. Either way, add your video (or record it) to start. On the next page that the editor takes you to, you’ll be adding your text. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen is an icon that has “Aa”. This is pretty much like Instagram Stories, if you’re familiar with that. So, once you select the “Aa”, you can start typing. Select the color wheel to change the colors and you can, like IG stories, select from your video using the eyedropper, too.

For some Reels, adding multiple text boxes that come in at a certain point makes sense. So, to do that, you’ll look at the bottom of your screen and see there’s a little grey preview box. There, you can change when it appears on your video! Use the yellow outline on the box to determine how long it will be on your video. My rule of thumb is to have text on the screen for 3-4 seconds and a max of 2 sentences. That should keep people’s attention better than a big paragraph.
