4 Tips for Creating Lip Sync Videos for Instagram Reels

October 20, 2021

Today, we’re going to dive into the top tips I have for creating the perfect lip sync Reels. I have a love-hate relationship with these kinds of Reels because it can be hard to nail them. While they often perform really well if done correctly, they can be tricky to make. We want to be sure that we’re creating content that’s great from the start so that our Reels perform well! So, that’s why today I’m sharing my tips for creating perfect lip sync videos – let’s get started!

4 Tips to Make Perfect Lip Sync Reels

Practice the sound over and over.

So, when I go to make a lip sync Reel, I’ll pull up the audio in my Instagram app and sit there listening and practicing the actual sound over and over. It’s much easier than going and filming it 50 times so you have the timing right. This helps me really nail the timing. If I don’t practice, I often haven’t heard the sound enough to get it all right! It may still take a few times to get it right but it’s still faster.

Write out the script.

If you’re worried about forgetting the words, write them down and put them near your phone! You could use a sticky note and put it under my camera so no one would ever know I was using it. This can be really helpful if you do better reading something!

Film lip sync Reels in shorter videos.

What I mean by that is instead of filming a Reel that’s 30 seconds long, break it into 5-6 second chunks or sentences to film. This makes sure you don’t hit “film” and have to memorize a lot of words at once. Here’s an example of one I broke into two videos when filming!

Bonus tip! When you break up the recording, consider changing your angle or outfits so that it’s a little different throughout the Reel! I think that this can also help your Reels become a little more engaging instead of just one long 30 second video where it’s all the same. Instead, you get a little more variety and will hold viewers’ attention!

Limit the amount of times you re-do a lip sync Reel.

I don’t know about you but I’ve had times where I’ve re-done a lip sync Reel 20 times. Maybe it’s not feeling comfortable or genuine, or I just can’t nail it. Whatever it is, it happens. And I want to give you full permission to just ditch it and move onto something else. If something isn’t working, that’s okay! You don’t have to jump on every trend or make a Reel just because someone else did. In fact, I think recognizing that it may not be a good fit for you or your business is actually better for you in the long run.

I talked a lot about this in another post HERE. It’s okay if you choose certain types of Reels to make because they feel genuine and easy to create for you and your brand. There’s something really helpful about that mindset.

Your Reels don’t have to be 100% perfect.

On the flip side, if you’re finding that you’re struggling but really want to make them, remember your Reels don’t have to be 100% perfect! Sometimes done is better than perfect and every take or Reel isn’t going to be the best thing you’ve ever made. It’s literally okay! If the entire thing feels okay overall, let it go and share it with the world!

Bonus tip! Consider saving multiple drafts of your Reels. If you feel like you’ve almost nailed it but want to try once or twice more, save it and then you can use that if you don’t like the retakes after all.

Instagram Reels are a great way to share your brand and content with a wider audience, so I’m all about finding what works for you and making them the best you can be.
