Today I’m going to share one of our sweetest (but also funniest) memories together: the first time Michael and I said “I love you”…
Well… the first time Michael said I love you.
Let me explain.
A couple months after we started dating, Michael came up to the college campus I was currently attending. It was such a wonderful date walking around the pond on campus, having a picnic, and getting a break from all the work. Michael planned the whole date, and of course, it was another romantic gesture that swept me off my feet. :) He’s always been the romantic in our relationship.
After our lovely afternoon together, he gave me a quick hug goodbye and said “Love ya.” I started walking away… then realized what he had just said!
And I didn’t say it back. Oops!
To be completely honest, I hadn’t even thought much about it… Now you really know who’s the romantic at heart. And it’s definitely not me, ha!
I went home and frantically asked my sister: should I say it back again the next time I see him? Or just ignore it?? My sister lovingly assured me that it was okay, and to just let it go. For now. :)
Poor Michael! Months later when we talked about it, I found out that it totally slipped out on accident…he didn’t really mean to say it then!!
A couple months after this happened, we had a another beautiful date (that Michael also planned) that involved slow dancing, dinner, and a big hug where we both said “I love you” for the first time. This time, I said it back. :)
That’s the first time we, well Michael, said he loved me, and how I said it back. It cracks us up every time!! Oh, the joys of dating. :) We really giggle about it now that we’re married!
