We are MARRIED!!!! Michael and I are so happy that we are finally husband and wife and that we get to start our lives together. Our wedding day was an absolute DREAM and I keep saying I wish we could relive it, over and over again!! We are so grateful for everyone that made it so incredible. It definitely was not possible without all the help from our friends and family, the staff at Jorgensen, our sweet videographer (Jen), our amazing photographer Kari, our DJ (Jonathan), and anyone else who made our day so special!! Everything went so smoothly and even better than I could have ever imagined.
Michael and I were married at Oak Grove, a new venue in New Albany, Ohio. It’s owned by another venue, Jorgensen Farms, that I had the chance to photograph two weddings at last summer and fell in love! Little did I know that the new addition they were adding to the back of their property would be where I would marry the love of my life. :) It’s an absolutely beautiful venue with an open air greenhouse, a little barn-like building (that’s white with beams on the inside), and gorgeous trees with fields. Basically, a DREAM place to have a wedding!! :) Michael and I planned our wedding in about 6 months, right after we got engaged last December. So if you’re thinking of planning a wedding in a short amount of time, I want to encourage you that you CAN do it!!! :) I am more than happy to share any tips I have with you if you’re finding it difficult (just reach out to me!). Everything came together better than I could have imagined, and we had a wedding that was more than we could ever hope for.
At the start of the day, my bridesmaids and I started at a hotel with my hair/makeup artist. It was so relaxing to hang out while everyone was getting ready, and to be almost completely ready for the day once we left for the venue! When we arrived at Oak Grove, everyone else soon followed to start setting up. There were literally a couple dozen people there to help bring everything and set it all up!! I am so grateful all our friends and family were so willing to help. A couple of Michael’s uncles and cousins made our cross for us, for the front of our ceremony. They basically made all of my cross dreams come true. :) Before I put my dress on, I wrote out all my vows in my little vow book outside. When I walked back in, the tears came on and I couldn’t stop crying for almost 30 minutes. There were so many emotions and it was all overwhelming, but in a really REALLY good and amazing kind of way. So I pretty much got all my crying out before the ceremony. :)
After my mom and my bridesmaids helped me put on my dress, we had our first look!! It was the best thing ever doing everything on my own wedding day after photographing over 60 weddings (and Michael’s shot with me at a good chunk of those)!! I could hardly believe we were doing it ourselves. During our first look, I gave him a book that was my prayer journal from right before we started dating through the first few months. We were able to do a lot of our portraits before the ceremony, which was awesome! Right before our ceremony started, Michael and I were just hanging out. The photos of us with the white wall are just minutes before it started!! It was awesome getting to see him and be with him right before we were married.
Our ceremony was definitely the BEST part of the entire day (click HERE to read our wedding vows!!) I was SO excited to finally marry him and start our lives together!!! :) It was the perfect day, not too hot with a little breeze! During our ceremony, we did foot washing. It was the first thing we did after exchanging our vows and rings. For us, it has a deeper meaning of being humble before each other, just like Jesus was humble enough to wash his disciples feet. It was definitely my favorite part of the day, if I HAD to choose a favorite!! :) I remember it so vividly. Michael was absolutely adorable and wrote a bunch of cute stuff on his feet for me to see when I took off his socks! I started laughing, and a lot of people asked me afterward what I was talking about, haha. :) It was the best. I was definitely not expecting it!! After each of us washed the other’s feet, we prayed over the other person and for our marriage.
We were both SO EXCTED to be announced husband and wife, I was jumping up and down and Michael was giving me the most joyful looks I have ever seen!!! For our first kiss, I was not expecting him to dip me at all, so it was a total surprise to me! After our kiss, he swooped me up and carried me back down the aisle. The rest of the evening went by SO FAST, but it was so much fun!! My sister and maid of honor, Melissa, sang a love song for Michael and I during dinner. It was so sweet and another favorite part from our day. :) After toasts and saying hi to everyone, we had our formal dances and then sunset photos in the rowboat. We just grabbed the flowers off of the cross and stuck them to the back of the rowboat, and it worked perfectly!! They are so dreamy, you’ll HAVE to scroll to the end to see them. :) We ended the night with a sparkler exit. I was so thrilled to see so many people stay for it, I don’t really know of any that left beforehand!!! It was the perfect way to end our wedding day.
