Today, we’re talking about a commonly asked question that I get: about how often you should be posting on Instagram. We’re going to dive into why consistency matters, but quality (over quantity) is most important! It’s also important to remember that the approach that works for me may not work for you but it should still be helpful to you. So let’s talk about how often you should be posting on Instagram!
Why consistency matters
No matter what platform you’re using, showing up consistently matters. It shows that you’re going to regularly show up, connect with your audience, and will help you grow over time. Instagram is more likely to share your content and push it out because you’ve shown that you’re reliable and consistent. This helps grow your reach organically! And think about it: the people or brands you follow that show up consistently are the ones that you remember and feel more connected to. By showing up more consistently, the stronger and more connected our audience is going to be, which is always a good thing. This directly leads to better and more successful offerings, launches, and all those fun things for your business.
My Instagram posting strategy
Currently, the way I show up on Instagram is by sharing a new post in my grid (a post or Instagram Reel), 4 to 5 times a week. I keep these posts during the week so I don’t have to worry about working on the weekend. Right now, it’s usually four reels and one regular post in the grid. I also show up 4 to 5 days a week on Instagram Stories. It’s a great way to connect with your audience on a more personal level. I don’t always follow a certain structure each time, but I do pay attention to what works well with my audience – usually polls, interactive quizzes or things like that. All I’m trying to say is: you do NOT have to show up every single day for Instagram to be useful!
How often should I be posting?
For me, my sweet spot has been showing up four to five times a week, with a feed post and on Instagram stories. And while that works for me, I want to take a moment to talk about the idea of quality over quantity. There’s a balance between these two things and it depends on your audience, the type of content you share, and it’s just not one size fits all. I don’t really believe it’s necessary to show up every single day on Instagram.
With that being said, Instagram would push your content out more because you show up every single day instead of someone who shows up once or twice a week. However, I do think that you can overshare. Sometimes when you do, you aren’t giving your content the time to gain traction or your audience time to even see it before you’re onto something new. That’s why I try to avoid posting more than once in my feed during the day. I don’t want to overwhelm my audience or reduce the traction I could be gaining. Remember, instead of them both performing well, I’m going to reduce the chance either will perform well because I’ve pushed out a lot of content at once (or in the same day).
Avoid putting out content just to put out content.
If you’re just sharing and throwing out content with no strategy and within a short window, you’re going to overwhelm your audience. And worse, it’s not sustainable for you! If you’re putting your time and energy into this content creation but not into other areas of your business, you’re not going to see the growth you want in your business or Instagram. Instead, try to focus on creating ONE great post a day instead.
Quality vs. Quantity
Whatever you’re doing, make sure that you aren’t stretching yourself too thin when creating all this content. Create content that’s meaningful for you and your audience every time you write a post. I’d rather you create three super well done pieces of content instead of posting every day with pieces of content that aren’t thought out well or don’t serve your audience. Now, I want to be clear: I’m not saying everything you publish has to be perfect or even your best written post. But, it should be something that serves you AND your audience well.
And after all that…. When we talk about the actual question behind this video, “How often should I be posting on Instagram?”, I think you should be showing up 4-5 times a week, once a day in your feed and Instagram Stories. I’ve seen a lot of growth by using this method and I truly believe it’s possible to have growth without showing up every single day. Personally, this amount of content feels good – you’re able to create good, strong content and not overwhelm yourself or your followers. And please remember, if that’s too much for you: that’s absolutely okay!! Show up in a way that works for you and this season of life.
