I made a HUGE switch recently… I bought a CANON camera for filming YouTube videos: The Canon M50! AHH! I honestly still don’t know how I feel about owning a Canon camera after only owning Nikon gear for YEARS. But I did it, and I’m already SO glad I did!
Recently, I recognized that I needed a better camera for filming YouTube videos. Now, don’t get me wrong – using a Nikon camera for filming videos when you’re getting started is PERFECT, like I explained in the blog post all about the gear I use. I don’t think it’s necessary, at all, to upgrade to a different camera! In fact, I could have kept filming on my Nikon camera for years to come.
However, there were a few key things I wanted in a camera that would make it way easier not only for filming sit down informational videos, but also VLOGS as well.
Why switch to the Canon M50?
The two main reasons I switched is for the better AUTOFOCUS and for the FLIP OUT SCREEN.
The Canon M50 met both of those needs while still giving me AMAZING video quality. It has autofocus that tracks your face as you’re filming, so you know you’re always going to be in focus. GAME CHANGER! It also has a screen that flips out so you can SEE yourself as you’re filming and know that the composition is exactly how you want it to be.
Even though my Nikon D750 cameras were $1,500+ (plus another $800+ for the lenses), it didn’t have either of these functions, which is why I switched over and bought a Canon M50 (don’t worry, I’m still using all my professional Nikon gear for photographing my weddings and couples!)
I’m already so excited I made the switch and have filmed several videos on my new camera already! I cannot WAIT to see how this helps me to not only film different kinds of content for you all, but also the ability to film MORE content in a shorter amount of time!
