If you’ve ever wanted some tips on how to get amazing photos to use on Instagram or online for your business/brand, this week’s video is for you! I’m sharing my top tips for how to pose yourself in front of a camera. Whether you’re working with a photographer, a family member, or just have your phone on a tripod – these tips for posing will help you feel more confident in front of the camera!
How to Have Amazing Photos
Before you even get in front of the camera, there’s three things you should think about. I usually ask a friend or family member to help me take some photos when I don’t have a session scheduled with a photographer. My first tip for that is to take a photo of them in the spot that you want your photo taken. Then you can clearly show them what to look for and how to frame the image. Once you’ve done that, have them snap a few photos before you go all out to make that it’s how you want. Finally, remember that you don’t need a fancy DSLR camera to get started with amazing photos. You can absolutely use your smartphone or iPhone for gorgeous photos. I take most of mine with my phone and edit them with my mobile presets!
Tips for Amazing Photos
Now, onto the good stuff. I have five tips to help you take amazing photos and feel confident posing for your brand! First, add movement. Swish your dress skirt or cross your legs and uncross them. Play with your hair, walk, or even skip. Whatever you do, just move. It helps makes your photos more natural! The constant movement will truly help you create images you love. It means you’ll also have some bad photos, but that’s okay. You want to maximize your time in front of the camera and this movement will help you do that.
Surprising Tips for Posing…
The next tip is to get a lower angle. I know this might sound funny, but it matters when you’re taking a wider shot. If the person taking your photo is looking down, you’re going to look short. So try to bring it closer to the ground so you look taller. It also helps capture some of your surroundings a bit better! If you’re worried about a double chin (I am!), just tuck your face down a little bit to help. Number three: move quickly. We already briefly touched on trying to maximize your time in front of the camera. Move quickly so you can take advantage of your outfits, having someone to help, and all of that. Try to do quick changes – maybe take your sweater off for some photos or pull your hair up quickly. If you can shift a little and grab another background, do it. Remember, variety will help in the long run!
When you go to share images, try to space them out. Spreading out those images later helps you feel like you’re sharing photos taken in different places on different days. Super helpful when you’re a content creator! Small changes – an accessory, a prop, an outfit adjustment – can help you create more content from one shoot. For tip number four, lean back on your back leg a little. This helps elongate your body and looks more natural. The tea cup pose is out!! Finally, look back at past photos and figure out what you like. Are they a certain angle? Specific outfits? Knowing why you like them can help you the next time you take photos. This will also help you decide how to edit and adjust the images after the shoot.
There you go! Five quick tips to help you pose with confidence while creating content for your business! I hope these tips help you create more content for your business with way less stress. Have fun with it – and enjoy yourself!
