Hey friends! Today I’m sharing my top ten FREE ways to market your business as a wedding photographer (or even portrait photographer!). There’s so many things you can do before you put any dollars towards marketing, and most of these are WAY better anyway! ;) Let’s jump right in!
- Blog every portrait session or wedding. This is one of the COOLEST ways you can market + it makes your clients feel super loved. It gives you content to share on social media, and when your clients share, they’re basically doing the marketing for you. :) I’ve gotten so many wedding inquiries by doing this!
- Upload an album of their images to Facebook. Choose some of your favorites to upload to an album on your Facebook business page. Include links to your blog post on the album description and in the description of every photo! Not only will this pop up on your client’s friend’s feeds, but these tags live FOREVER. So basically, if their friend comes along a year later and sees that you tagged them in a bunch of wedding photos… they can find you that way! I’ve gotten wedding inquiries this way!! Bonus: When you tag their clients in the photos, they can immediately make your photos their profile photos. ;)
- Post on Instagram. Share your work, things about yourself, share about new blog posts, share about your why. Use strategic hashtags + geotags on all of your posts to attract future clients! For example, if you want to attract future brides in Columbus, Ohio, use local hashtags (like #columbusweddingphotographer), tag the venue where the photo is at, and geo-tag Columbus (or the venue).
- Pin your photos to Pinterest. This becomes REALLY easy when you’re already putting up blog posts with all those photos already there! Use relevant descriptions and titles in your pins. You can use a Plugin to pin photos directly from your website. You can always pin several photos a day to your Pinterest yourself (which is completely free), but another way is to use an app called Tailwind. I’ve been using this recently and I love it!
- Blog on topics besides your professional photos. Blog about tips and tricks – for example, if you’re a family photographer, blog about how to choose outfits for family sessions! When you do this, you become a credible source and the VALUE you’re conveying to your clients goes up. Also blog about your life, travels, and anything else your clients can relate to on a personal level – this helps to strengthen your brand and give you personality, to attract the right clients!
- Add a free listing to wedding + photography related websites, like The Knot, Wedding Wire, Yelp, etc. There are a TON out there that you can add a totally free listing to! Not only have I booked weddings from these without paying a dime, but it helps with your SEO because they’re pointing back to your website.
- Treat vendors like gold. If you want to photograph more weddings, use the weddings you already have to give your VENDORS an experience just like you do your clients. Treat them super well to create lasting relationships!! This one takes more time but is long-lasting! :)
- Start a referral group with photographers who are similar to you. You can start one with photographers who shoot different things (for example, send all your family inquiries to a family photographer and they send you all their wedding inquiries) or with photographers who specialize in what you do as well, for dates you’re already booked!
- Treat the clients you have like gold. Seriously guys, this is KEY! Even if you only have two weddings booked, treat them like they’re the best thing EVER (because they are) and that’s going to grow your business so much. Treat them well in the way that you wow them, give them an experience, and serve them.
- Incorporate your personality, your why, and what makes YOU unique into everything you do. Make this super apparent why you think you stand out and what you bring to the table! This is key in attracting clients you click with and that you will serve SO well!
